Today Dave was pretty busy with work off and on, and I needed something to keep Anna busy. she didn't want to watch Elmo. She didn't want to play with her toys. She didn't really want to do anything at all. But I needed to get 50 things done, so I put her in her high chair and attempted an impromptu snack time. She wasn't interested in snacks, either.
I pulled out a piece of paper and her crayons, taped the paper to her high chair tray, and thought "this could distract her for all of 5 minutes, but I'll take what I can get."
Wouldn't you know it, my babydoll started coloring like crazy! She's played with art materials before, but she usually needs me to prod her along and show her how it's done. But today- Today! She just went right to it! It was a beautiful little milestone! She kept trying different colors and she seemed to really be concentrating on her little masterpiece and she hardly ate any of the crayons! (hardly)
My heart is happy at this sight! I'm not trying to force my kid to be an artist by any means, but her interest in the activity today just really made my day.
